More About My Game Plan

In an earlier post, I mentioned my game plan and what exactly I wanted to accomplish. I want to create a power point presentation to illustrate clearly how to behave properly in a restaurant. To do this I would need to gather information and images or video clips to use in the power point. Then I would need to put it into the power point, add a lot of "bells and whistles" to make it more interesting and show it to my students hoping to get positive results.

The other part of my plan is to communicate more with my students and parents using my teacher website. I already have an account with my school, I just need to customize it and update it frequently. I have also thought about creating a survey to send to my parents asking them what they would want to see on my web page. When I know what they want, I will have a better idea of what to include on it. After it is created, I will send out a paper that includes instructions on how to access the site. I know I am probably forgetting something... please help if any of you can think of it!

  1. Do you have Microsoft Photstory installed on your computers? You powerpoint presntation sounds like it might be easier and faster to do in photostory. The program is not hard to learn, probably 2hr. of self-directed learning ought to do the trick if you never used it before.

  2. Katie,

Another tool you may be able to use to present your information would be a VoiceThread. There you can add images or drawings as well as add music to what you are presenting to your class. After showing the presentation, you could help your students to post their own comments on what they think proper behavior means in a restaraunt setting. This would get them involved in what you are doing and is something they could share with their parents.

I will also be sending home a survey with my current students to see what type of information they would like to see on a class website as well as what types of student work they would like to see published on the site. I think gaining feedback is a great idea that will give you valuable information to create a user-friendly site for your parents.

  3. Hi Katie,

Students would get a kick out of seeing actors/actresses they know such as classmates, former teachers, or the principal.

Surveys are always a great source of information as long as you get responses. In my district there is a language barrier as more and more Latino students move into our area. It is difficult. Would you do the survey now or in the Fall?

Keep exploring all of these great options!

  4. Thanks all for your comments and ideas. Thanks for giving ideas of specific tools and programs to use. These should be helpful as I put my game plan into practice.

    Thanks again!

  5. Katie,

I enjoyed your post. I especially like you plans of creating a class website. I used this resource in the past, not currently due to the individuality and confidentiality of my teaching as a special education teacher. There are so many wonderful things that you can do with such a website. It is a wonderful resource for students and parents. Also, you won't get as many lame excuses about missed assignments because they are always available online.

    Good luck with your ideas,
    Rebecca

  6. I love the idea of communicating with parents on the website! I try to use my website with the school but I always forget to update it. I also find that even when I do not many people look at my site anyway. Do find that parents use your website?

  7. Katie,
Would the video clips that you post on your slides be video clips that you find on the internet or other resources? I think it would be neat to have kids make video clips modeling appropriate behavior and then post those clips to the slides. This would give students the opportunity to practice proper ediquete as well as have ownership in the power point presentation.

    Just a thought:)
