Cooperative Learning.
I think that cooperative learning is a great thing. I think that by working with one another, our students learn a lot more than the curriculum. One way our students can do this is by constructing a website with one another. They can be given a topic and need to work together create an informative website that can be viewed by others in the class. I think that this is a great way to collaborate and also showcase work.

I think that having student work together on a group website is a wonderful idea. I think that it would be important for the students to have assigned roles so that they knew what things that they were responsible for and what things the other members were suppose to take care of. I think that having rubrics for the assignment would be very helpful as well. This way everyone is on the same page when it comes to grading the project.
ReplyDeleteHow do you feel your students with special needs would do with creating a website? As a third grade teacher, I am concerned on different levels with my students creating and publishing a website, but I would feel better about my students adding to our classroom website. Depending on the levels of your students, will they be able to understand internet safety and how to be responsible in this virtual world? How can we work with students that are not able to handle this kind of responsibility? You may not have answers, these are just some things I started to wonder!:)
ReplyDeleteDo you think your students would respond better to creating a website or creating a voice thread. I really liked that the voice thread had so many options for posting and students could type, record, call in, etc for their posting option. I think that might be useful in your special needs class.
ReplyDeleteI think you have a great idea! Many students may have expertise about how to create their own websites before they even step in the door, but what a powerful tool if they do not. I think any time you publish something, websites included, there is a sense of ownership students feel if their work is exposed to the public. Again, this is great way to create interest and collaboration between students. Would you allow students to find their own formats or have them adhere to one?
